Many students who are considering enrolling in a Study Abroad Program become
interested in applying for financial aid since their expenses for the academic
year significantly increase over their usual expenses. Here are a few things
that can help you understand the relationship between Study Abroad and Financial
Aid.
- We want to be sure that every campus abroad student is aware of his/her eligibility
for financial aid as early as possible in the school year.
- The first step for any Study Abroad student interested in financial aid is
to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and
list LTCC (code #012907). Applications for 2000-01 will be available
in mid-December, to be mailed as soon as possible AFTER January 1,
2001.
- There are no special financial aid programs for study abroad students.
- We have the regular state and federal financial aid programs to offer
(Pell Grant, FSEOG, Stafford Loans, PLUS Parent Loans, Cal Grant, EOPS
Grant, and Board of Governor fee waivers.
- Study Abroad students must also be regular students at LTCC.
- Financial aid programs offer loans and grants. Grant aid is available to
the lower income students/families while loans are available for low,
middle, and upper income students/families.
- Students in Study Abroad have extra expenses associated with living
away from home and transportation costs. Both are taken into consideration
when awarding financial aid to Study Abroad students.
- Students on aid in Study Abroad can generally be paid early in the quarter
before leaving on their trip, if their financial aid file is complete. Aid
is distributed on a quarterly basis for all quarters during the school year,
not just the Study Abroad quarter.
