C. Compare and contrast different photographic styles and genre.
D. Read and evaluate selected articles on photography-related topics.
E. Demonstrate knowledge of current photographic technology.
F. Discuss and describe expanding visual awareness.

Supplies
Adjustable Camera with a light meter (preferred)
Your choice of 10 rolls of color print film
Negative Pages
Print pages
Ring Binder for negatives
Presentation book for print
Special Note: It is a good idea to take your camera to a local
camera shop to have them evaluate if your camera is in proper working
condition. Better to know now when you can do something about it, than be
standing in front of a major Spanish monument and not be able to take a
picture due to equipment failure. One of the largest factors in camera failure
is bad batteries. Have them change the batteries if they haven't been replaced
in the last 6 months. If you don't have one already, a skylight or UV filter
is good to have to protect your lens from scratches. If you need to purchase a
new camera, here are a few that I would recommend:
Nikon FM10
Pentax ZX-M
Pentax K1000 (can only buy these used)
There are numerous manufacturers and models that would be excellent for this
class. The biggest thing you need to concern yourself with is manual
operation. You need to be able to manually operate the aperture and shutter
speed. Having a working light meter is also critical. Bring your camera's
written manual to assist me in helping you with your camera.

Attendance
Active participation in class discussions is not only critical to student
success in the course but also plays an integral role in creating an
environment that fosters students learning from their peers. Students are
expected to attend all class sessions. A grade change will be employed (in the
attendance portion of the final grade computation) if a student is continually
absent, tardy, or noticed to be departing class early, and therefore unable to
actively participate. Absences or tardiness are considered excused only by
prior consent of instructor. Missed exams are graded as zeros since no
make-ups are given unless accompanied by a doctor’s excuse and agreed upon
by instructor.
Student Success
My goal in this class is that each of you succeeds. To this end, it is your
responsibility to discuss with me any disabilities or challenges you have in
meeting the class requirements. We will work together to get you the
assistance or the accommodations necessary for your success.
What to do until we go to Salamanca
For the first 2 weeks of the quarter you will be working remotely until we all
can be in one classroom in Salamanca. You will need to do the following:
- Read the "Camera" and "Film" chapters of your
textbook.
- Define the terms listed in the "Terms in Your Textbook"
section of this online venue.
Drops
If you must drop the class, please do the proper paperwork with the admission
and records office. Please also notify me.
