This is a completely online course. An online lab manual must be purchased in order to do the oral listening exercises. Phone messages to Nancy and conversations with Spanish-speakers are required. You should be very comfortable using technology for this class and should also be an independent learner. A previous knowledge of Spanish will be very helpful: travel, high school classes, conversational experience, work, etc.
If this is your very first experience with Spanish it might be a better idea to take a face-to-face class.
How much time should you be able to dedicate to this online class? The same as a face-to-face class: 15 hours a week!

It is less expensive there.
You may be able to get by without the textbook for this class: Puntos de
partida. If this is your first Spanish class it is highly recommended that
you have the textbook. But if you have had Spanish in the past and/or have
another elementary Spanish textbook to use for reference, you may be able
to get by without purchasing the text.
