CHM 117 Introduction to
Biological Chemistry

Course Description
This course is a one-quarter introduction to biological chemistry primarily for
students who intend to pursue careers in allied health fields and other applied
sciences. Major topics include (1) the structure and functions of carbohydrates,
lipids, amino acids, proteins, enzymes, and nucleic acids; and (2) protein
synthesis, metabolic pathways, and biological energy production.

For major organic functional group compounds, student must be able to:
