The Union of Concerned Scientists is the leading science-based nonprofit working for a healthy environment and a safer world.  UCS combines independent scientific research and citizen action to develop innovative, practical solutions and to secure responsible changes in government policy, corporate practices, and consumer choices.

U.S. Department of Energy:
National Renewable Energy Laboratory: Student Internship Programs
This program includes a program for community college students: paid internships in Science and Engineering and Technology at any of several different locations.  Students work with scientists or engineers on projects related to the laboratories' research programs.  They also attend career planning and numerous training/informational sessions.
