This example comes from a recent online class. The student received a final grade of F for the class: Student's Submission: I grew up learning between right and wrong based mainly on the views of my parents. If I were doing something “wrong” then I would be spoken to, or reprimanded for my action. In this manner, my parents taught me which behaviors were morally acceptable and which were not. I gradually adopted, and continue to follow, a system of beliefs about how people should behave in American society, a moral code. Are my moral values the same as those of a typical young woman raised in Afghanistan ? Quite simply, they are not. Rather, she was born into a completely different culture and therefore follows a different moral code, but are our two moral codes completely different? Do both cultures agree that murder is morally wrong? What about slavery or ethnic cleansing? Should all cultures support basic human rights? I do not support the theory of Cultural Relativism, because it has an inherent weakness that excuses one culture from condemning certain behaviors in another that should be recognized by all as unacceptable under any circumstances. was a classic "cut & paste" plagiarism. All of the work you submit must be your
own, including listserv posts.
Please note: in the last year, I have dealt with a
number of cases of plagiarism. In addition to receiving Fs for the class for
plagiarism, students have had to meet with the Vice President and Dean of LTCC
in order to receive official reprimand letters. This is a very serious
situation, so if you plagiarize in any context—whether on an exam, a quiz or a
listserv post—you will receive an F and face a mandatory meeting with college
officials. As well, you may be expelled immediately for the plagiarism from the
college and will never be able to take classes again. Don't do it!
