This course is being taught online using the Etudes course management system. For students new to Etudes, it is highly recommended that you attend a free Etudes orientation workshop in Room D-125 on:
Wed 1/6 from 4:00-6:00 PM or
Mon 1/11 from 9:00-11:00 AM

As a student in this class, you are required to sign on to the CAO 153 course site at least two times per week to check for announcements, modules, assignments, discussions, and private messages.

The areas you must check every week are:
Announcements - class announcements from your instructor
Modules - weekly lessons for you to follow
Assignments,Tests,and Surveys - graded homework assignments
Discussions - public messages (questions and comments) from classmates and the instructor
Private Messages - private messages to and from your instructor or your classmates

Description:

CAO 153 is a comprehensive course in using word processing software to design and create documents for business. Basic topics include creating, editing, and formatting multi-page documents. Advanced topics include tables, mail merge, and desktop publishing.

CAO 152A Introduction to Windows for the PC or equivalent
Basic keyboarding skills (recommended)
Students must be able to navigate the Web and to save, attach, and download files.

Student Learning Outcomes:

The successful student will:
1) Learn word processing concepts and terminology
2) Demonstrate a working knowledge of basic and advanced word processing software capabilities
3) Produce multi-page documents for business applications

Microsoft Word 2007

You must have access to Word 2007 as older versions cannot be used for this course. You are welcome to use the D-wing computer labs and the Tutoring and Learning Center on campus where there are computers equipped with Word 2007. Lab hours will be posted as soon as they are established for the quarter. (The LTCC library computers do not have this version of Word installed.)

Required Materials:
Minimum of 8 megabytes of space on a hard drive or USB flash drive for the textbook data files. To follow the textbook you must download the data files from the publisher's web site. Instructions will be posted in the course site module for the first week of class.

Attendance:

Class attendance is fulfilled by signing on to the CAO 153 course site at least two times per week to check for new postings. Failing to sign on to read announcements, modules, assignments, discussions,and private messages is equivalent to skipping class.

Students are expected to meet all posted deadlines. This is not a self-paced course.

Accommodations:

Homework
Assignments:

Students are expected to spend several hours per week working on modules and homework assignments. Homework assignments must be submitted online by the posted due dates. No late assignments will be accepted.

Exams:
There will be two computer hands-on exams administered through the Tutoring and Learning Center on campus. The exams will test your understanding of important concepts and skills learned in the course. You must come to campus during each exam period or make prior arrangements with your instructor for an off-campus test location.

Dishonesty Policy:

Assignments and exams must be completed by each individual student. Joint work, sharing assignments, or any other manner of cheating will result in a grade of F for the assignment or exam.

Grading:

Final grades will be determined by points earned on homework assignments and exams. There will be no extra credit assignments.

  NOTE: This course can be taken under the Pass/No Pass option by submitting a Pass/No Pass form to the college's Registration Office before noon Friday 1/29/10.
