Description:

CAO 121 is a comprehensive course in spreadsheet applications in business using Excel 2007. Topics include the design, development, and formatting of spreadsheets; the presentation of data through the creation of charts; the use of data lists and pivot tables; and the management of multiple spreadsheets. Emphasis is placed on using spreadsheet software to solve practical business problems.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
This is a transfer-level course. Students with little or no computer experience should enroll in CAO 110 Microcomputer Applications before taking this course.

CAO 110 Microcomputer Applications or equivalent.
Students must be able to navigate the Web and to save, attach, and download files.
Student Learning Outcomes:

The successful student will be able to:
1) Design and develop spreadsheets for business applications
2) Design charts for representing data
3) Develop and manage data lists and pivot tables
4) Apply "What-If Analysis" skills

You must have access to Excel 2007 as older versions cannot be used for this course. You are welcome to use the D-wing computer labs and the Tutoring and Learning Center on campus where there are computers equipped with Excel 2007. Lab hours will be posted as soon as they are established for the quarter. (The LTCC library computers do not have Excel 2007installed.)

Required Materials:
Minimum of 8 megabytes of hard drive space or a USB flash drive for storage of data files
Attendance:

Class attendance is fulfilled by signing on to the CAO 121 course site at least two times per week to check for new postings. Failing to sign on to read announcements, modules, assignments, discussions, and private messages is equivalent to skipping class.

Students are expected to meet all posted deadlines. This is not a self-paced course.

Homework
Assignments:

Students are expected to spend several hours per week working on modules and homework assignments. Homework assignments must be submitted online before the posted due dates. No late assignments will be accepted.

Exams:
There will be a midterm and a final exam held during class time. The exams will test your understanding of important concepts and skills learned in the course.
Dishonesty Policy:

Assignments and exams must be completed by each individual student. Joint work, sharing assignments, or any other manner of cheating will result in a grade of F for the assignment or exam.

Grading:

Final grades will be determined by points earned on homework assignments and exams. There will be no extra credit assignments.

NOTE: This course can be taken under the Pass/No Pass option by submitting a Pass/No Pass form to the college's Registration Office before noon Friday 1/29/10.
