This course is being taught online using the Etudes course management system. If you are new to Etudes, it is recommended that you attend a
90-minute Orientation to Etudes workshop taught by John Olsen in Room D-125 on Wed 9/24 (11:30 am) or Thu 9/25 (4:00 pm).
As a student in this class, you are required to sign on to the Etudes-based CAO 110 course site at least THREE times per week to check for announcements, modules, assignments, discussions, and private messages. You are responsible for everything posted on the CAO 110 course site.
The areas you must check are:
Announcements - announcements from your instructor (posted at any time)
Modules - weekly lessons for you to follow
Assignments - graded homework assignments
Discussions - public messages (questions and comments) from classmates and the instructor
Private Messages - private messages to and from your instructor or your classmates

Course
Description: |
This course provides the student with an introduction to the use of commonly used applications software for the PC. After completing this course, students should have a solid foundation in using the personal computer for word processing, spreadsheet, database management and presentation software. Students will be well prepared to continue on to more in-depth study of any of these software packages.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
This is a transfer-level course. Students with little or no experience with computers should enroll in the two six-week course sequence CAO 151 Intro to Personal Computers and CAO 152A Intro to Windows before taking this course.
Business majors who already have knowledge of Word and basic Excel should enroll in CAO 121 (a four unit Excel course offered in Winter 2009) instead of CAO 110.

Microsoft Office 2007 Professional (Word 2007, Excel 2007, Access 2007, PowerPoint 2007)
No other versions of Microsoft Office can be used for this course.
Students are responsible for having access to computers with Office 2007 Professional. Otherwise, students must use the D-wing computer labs on campus to work on class assignments. Lab hours will be posted as soon as they are established for the quarter.

Attendance: |
Class attendance is fulfilled by signing on to the course site at least three times per week to check for new postings. Failing to sign on to read announcements, modules, assignments, discussions, and private messages is equivalent to skipping class.
You are expected to meet all posted deadlines. This is not a self-paced course. |

Homework
Assignments: |
Students are expected to spend several hours per week working on lesson modules and homework assignments. Homework assignments must be submitted online before the posted due dates. No late assignments will be accepted.

Exams: |
There will be three computer hands-on quizzes that will be administered through the Tutoring and Learning Center on campus. You MUST come to campus during each quiz week. The quizzes will test your understanding of important concepts and skills learned in the course. |
Dishonesty Policy: |
Homework and exams must be completed by each individual student. Joint work, sharing assignments, or cheating will result in a grade of F.

Grading: |
Final grades will be determined by points earned on homework assignments and quizzes. There will be no extra credit assignments.
