A. Adiabatic processes

- dry adiabatic rate - no condensation - up to condensation level where temperature reaches the temperature of saturation (Fig. 4-13)
- 10 C per 1000m
- 5.5 F per 1000 ft
- wetadiabatic rate (variable rates) (Fig. 4-14)
- condensation occurs (warming process) - adds heat, still cools but more slowly
- 6 C per 1000 m
- 3.3 F per 1000 ft
B. Causes of uplift and Cloud Development
- surface heating and convection
- thermal rises

- forms cumulus cloud
- orographic lifting
- rain shadow
- lenticular clouds
