STUDY GUIDE - Rocks and Rock Cycle

Rock Cycle: magma, cooling, igneous rocks, weathering and erosion, sediment, lithification, sedimentary rocks, heat and pressure, metamorphic rocks, melting

igneous rocks: intrusive, extrusive, intrusions, blobs, tabular, dikes, sills

sedimentary rocks: horizontal layers, fossils, tell about surface environment

metamorphic rocks: folded, faulted, deformed, foliation

Draw and explain the rock cycle.

Describe the three (actually four) basic types of rocks and how they form.  List the characteristics that might be used to identify each rock type.

Identify rock samples as extrusive igneous, intrusive igneous, sedimentary, or metamorphic
