Location:  20°-30° latitude, rainshadow, distance from ocean

Types:  erg, reg, hamada

Water landforms:  intermittent streams, interior drainage basins, playa lakes, salt flats, evaporite minerals, alluvial fans, 

Wind: desert pavement, deflation, sand dunes, slip face, dune migration, types of dunes , barchans, seifs, transverse,

Landscapes:  mesa and scarp, pillar, butte, mesa, plateau;  basin and range

 


Explain the three main factors that control the location of deserts and how they are distributed around the planet.

Compare and contrast ergs, regs, and hamadas.

 Explain how the process of deflation forms desert pavement.

 How do dunes migrate?  Describe the three main types of dunes (seifs, transverse, barchans).

 Describe the two main types of desert landscapes in North America (basin and range, mesa and butte).

 

Describe the fluvial landforms commonly found in arid environments.
