SPAIN PROGRAM FALL QUARTER 2005 

Lake Tahoe Community College, in partnership with the Foothill/DeAnza Community College District, is offering an exciting quarter in Salamanca, Spain , during the Fall Quarter, 2005.

What are the program dates?

Wednesday,  October 5, 2005: 
AIFS flight departs U.S. for Madrid

Saturday, December 3, 2005:
End of program.  AIFS flight departs Madrid

Application deadline: June 29, 2005

What courses are available?

Students will have the opportunity to choose from for-credit coursework that includes  Spanish, English, and Geology/Geography.  LTCC’s Geography instructor Betsy Julian is among the instructors who will be teaching in Salamanca.  Please click here for a list of her courses. Further below, you can also find the classes offered through the partner colleges Foothill and DeAnza.  All students are required to take Spanish Life and Culture, a 2-credit pass/fail course that will include fieldtrips throughout Salamanca and surrounding areas.  Classes will begin online September 19, and will continue in Salamanca on October 10, 2005.

What else is included in the Salamanca Program?

LTCC and Foothill/DeAnza Colleges are working with the American Institute For Foreign Study (AIFS).  The program fee includes:

  • Group transfer by private bus from Madrid to Salamanca on Sunday, October 9 and from Salamanca to Madrid on Friday, December 2;

  • Three nights in Madrid at the beginning of the program and one night prior to departure (breakfast included);

  • Sightseeing tour of Madrid by private coach with English-speaking guide and visit to El Escorial;

  • Full-day guided excursion from Madrid to Toledo by private coach;
  • Flamenco Show in Madrid;

  • Accommodation in Salamanca homestays (two students per homestay sharing a double room);

  • Three meals per day, seven days per week and weekly laundry service in homestay;

  • Orientation meeting with AIFS staff on day after arrival, welcome reception and a guided walking tour of Salamanca;

  • A weekly program of cultural events (such as a cooking demo, visit to the cinema and sporting events);

  • Day excursions from Salamanca to Avila, La Alberca, and to Ciudad Rodrigo;

  • Group transfer at the end of the program from Salamanca to Madrid and overnight in Madrid.

How much will my educational adventure cost?

The program price is $3,945.

A deposit of $450 is due on June 29, 2005 ($150 non-refundable). The balance of 3,495 is due on August 1, 2005.

Is financial aid available for this trip?

Financial aid is available for those who qualify.  Please contact Lynn Thiesen, Director of Financial Aid.

What other costs will I need to consider for my study abroad experience in London?

The AIFS program does not include:

 ·        Round-trip airfare between the U.S. and Madird.  AIFS will provide you with airline tickets and airport transfers between the airport and your program at your request for $845.00 (which does not include U.S. government and airline-imposed departure taxes and fees; estimated at $199);

·        Tuition to LTCC and other participating colleges;

·       Textbooks;

·        Passport fees;

·        Personal expenses (weekly laundry service provided with homestay);

·        Optional personal effects coverage ($80.00)  and medical insurance upgrade ($60.00) from AIFS;

·        Travel funds for additional excursions, etc.

Are there any requirements for participation in the Spain Program?

Students must be at least 18 year of age as of the program start date, have a minimum grade point average of 2.5, and register for a minimum of 12 units (which includes the mandatory Spanish Life and Culture Course).
