SPAIN PROGRAM FALL QUARTER 2003 

Lake Tahoe Community College, in partnership with the Foothill/DeAnza Community College District, is offering an exciting quarter in Salamanca, Spain , during the Fall Quarter, 2003.

What are the program dates?

Wednesday,  October 8, 2003: 
AIFS flight departs U.S. for Madrid

Thursday, October 9, 2003:
AIFS flight arrives Madrid

Sunday, October 12, 2003:
Transfer to Salamanca

Monday, October 13, 2002: 
Start of classes

Thursday, December 4, 2003:
Last day of classes

Friday, December 5, 2003:
Transfer to Madrid for overnight stay

Saturday, December 6, 2003:
End of program.  AIFS flight departs Madrid

What courses are available?

Students will have the opportunity to choose from for-credit coursework that includes  Spanish, English, English Literature and Culinary.  LTCC’s english instructor Suzanne Roberts  is among the instructors who will be teaching in Salamanca.  For a full list and description of courses, please contact the International Education Coordinator.  All students are required to take Spanish Life and Culture, a 2-credit pass/fail course that will include fieldtrips throughout Salamanca and surrounding areas. 

What else is involved in the Salamanca Program?

LTCC and Foothill/DeAnza are working with the American Institute For Foreign Study(AIFS).  The AIFS program includes:

How much will my educational adventure cost?

A homestay costs a total of $3,175.00.

Is financial aid available for this trip?

Financial aid is available for those who qualify.  Please contact Lynn Thiesen, Director of Financial Aid.

What other costs will I need to consider for my study abroad experience in London?

The AIFS program does not include:

 ·        Round-trip airfare between the U.S. and Madird.  AIFS will provide you with airline tickets and airport transfers between the airport and your program at your request for $890.00 (which includes U.S. government and airline-imposed departure taxes and fees);

·        Tuition to LTCC and other participating colleges;

·       Textbooks;

·        Meals (breakfast five days a week is included in the homestay package);

·        Passport fees;

·        Personal expenses such as laundry;

·        Optional personal effects coverage ($80.00)  and medical insurance upgrade ($60.00) from AIFS.

Are there any requirements for participation in the Spain Program?

Students must be at least 18 year of age as of the program start date, have a current grade point average of at least 2.5, and register for a minimum of 14 units (which includes the mandatory Spanish Life and Culture Course).
