International Exchange

Community College Program for International Students

Established in 1951, YFU has successfully exchanged more than 186,000 students from over 40 countries.  The YFU Community College Program offers a variety of interesting and challenging academic programs.  It is a unique opportunity for international students who would like to continue their education while experiencing US culture. 

The Degree Program
Students gain more intensive specialized academic and career training in this two-year program.  After completing the course requirements, students are awarded an associate's degree by LTCC.

The Certificate Program
Students spend a year studying and gaining career training in a variety of areas.  



Host Family Experiences

 In addition to knowledge gained in the classroom, you'll develop your cross-cultural skills and learn firsthand about US culture by living with a host family in your local community.  You will participate in family activities, share in family responsibilities, and provide your host family an international friendship that can last a lifetime... 

It's Easy to Apply

To apply you must be between the ages of 17-23.  In addition, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Secondary school graduation
  • Strong academic record
  • Some English language proficiency (applicants take the Comprehensive English Language Test -CELT)
  • Motivation to succeed in your academic courses
  • Commitment to the host family experience
  • Self-reliance, self-direction, and maturity
  • Readiness for a cross-cultural experience

In addition to the English test, you will be required to submit essays and take part in a personal interview.
