Course Description: This course is continuation of Math 152A. I will be presenting factoring, rational expressions, first degree equations and inequalities with absolute value, solving systems of linear equations and inequalities, radical equations, rational exponents and solving quadratic equations. This course will connect math with the real world. It is my desire to reduce math anxiety and build self-confidence in every student by the end of this class. Prerequisite: A grade of C or better in Math 152A or equivalent or appropriate skills demonstrated through the Math Assessment process. As a courtesy to everyone in class, please turn off all cell phones. Students with disabilities must identify themselves to me within the first two weeks of class. Accommodations
for Students with Disabilities:
Students requiring accommodations for a certain disability that may affect
class performance are requested to schedule with a staff member at the DRC to
discuss this during the first week of the quarter so that appropriate
arrangements can be made. Course
materials are available in an alternate format.
My
philosophy on Math . . .
We dont hear the phrase Spanish anxiety or English
anxiety; why is there math anxiety? My
belief is that if you view math as a different form of language, there is less
of an obstacle to learning it. There
are new vocabulary, grammar and rules for every language.
And so with math we have different notation, terminology and properties.
From this new perspective, I hope math will become fluent to all of you!
Math is a wonderful tool. It
stimulates our mind to use logic, pose questions, analyze and problem solve!
What other language can do that?! I
hope you come to share my enthusiasm for math and that you may find it helpful
in life. The Gateway Math Center has free tutoring for all registered students. Please Log In and Out so that the facility gets the funds it needs. In this class, it is your responsibility to drop the class in order to avoid an unwanted grade. You must go to the registrars office. Friday, January 14, 2005 is the last day for refunds. Friday, January 28, 2005 is the last day to drop with no record. Friday, March 4, 2005 is the last day to withdraw with a W grade. Student

library. Then write a one-page
summary of the chapters and how it will help you in Math. All papers are due by
Friday, February 25, 2005. Grading:
