REQUIRED TEXT: Geometry by Harold Jacobs, 2nd edition

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This is a formal course in Geometry, covering the basics of lines, planes, angles, triangles, congruence, similarity, parallels, the Pythagorean Theorem, and area. The method of deductive reasoning will be studied in depth.

PREREQUISITE: Math 152A, 152B, or equivalent, or satisfactory score on Mathematics Assessment test. (Math 152B may be taken concurrently.)

GRADING POLICY:

Test 1 Chapters 1, 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3 100 points

Test 2 Chapter 3, 2.4 through 2.6 100 points

Test 3 Chapters 4 & 5.1, 5.2 100 points

Test 4 Chapters 5 and 6 100 points

Quizzes (based on homework) 4 at 25 points 100 points

Homework 50 points

Final Exam (Chaps. 1-6, 9-11) 150 points

The final is Tuesday, June 24, 1997, from 4:00 - 5:50 p.m. Your letter grade will be based on your percentage of the possible points. The total possible is 100 points.

A 90 - 100% 630 - 700 D 60 - 69% 420 - 489

B 80 - 89% 560 - 629 F less than 60% less than 419

C 70 - 79% 490 - 559

MAKE-UP POLICY: There are no make-ups for quizzes; however, one quiz will be dropped, taking the best 4 out of 5. Make-ups for chapters tests and the final will be assessed a 10 percent penalty, (except with a written medical excuse).

OFFICE HOURS: per appointment, arrange during class time or call voice mail.

TUTORING: Free tutoring is available in the Learning Assistance Center, Room B107. Hours will be posted on the door of our classroom.

REGISTRATION:

1. You must register for this class at the Office of Admissions and Records.

2. The last day to drop the class with no record is Friday, May 9.

3. The last day to drop the class for a "W" grade is Friday, May 9.

4. After June 6, 1997, if you are enrolled, you will receive one of the following grades: A, B, C, D, F. In this class, it is YOUR responsibility to drop the class in order to avoid a grade!
