Course Description: MATH 154
This course is a continuation of MAT 152B. The course will cover functions and
their inverses, exponential and logarithmic functions, sequences and series, and
conic sections, quadratic equations, and systems of quadratic equations. Prerequisite: MAT152B with a grade of C or better or appropriate skills demonstrated through the math assessment process.
Student Outcomes: The successful student will: 1. Exhibit proficiency in the topics covered in the course. 2. Engage in logical and critical thinking. 3. Read technical information. 4. Demonstrate the solution to problems by translating written language into mathematical statements, interpreting information, sketching relevant diagrams, analyzing given information, formulating appropriate math statements, and checking and verifying results.
Calculator: You will need a scientific calculator for this course. It should have a log key and an exponent key. Graphing calculators are NOT allowed.
Tutoring: Tutoring is available in the Gateway Math Center in Room G4. The phone number is 541-4660, ext 741. Tutoring hours will be given to you in a separate handout as soon as the schedule is available.
Office Hours: 5:30 6:00 pm M-W, and by appointment.
Registration: 1. You must register for this class at the Office of Admissions and Records. 2. The last day to drop this class with No Record is Friday, October 14th. 3. The last day to drop this class for a W grade is Friday, November 18th. 4. After November 18th, if you are enrolled, you will receive one of the following grades: A, B, C, D, F, or I (Incompletes only allowed in special cases).
N.B.: It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to drop this class in order to avoid a grade. You must go to the registrar by the above dates to avoid a grade from option three or four.

Your letter grade will be based on your percentage of the 650 possible points:
A 90-100% ( > 584 points) B 80-89% (520 584 points) C 70-79% (455 519 points) D 60-69% (390 454 points) F less than 60% ( < 390 points)
Make-Up Policy: 1) Homework will be accepted up to one week late if and only if you have an excused absence on the date it is due. You may hand in homework early, and I will hold it to grade at the appropriate due date.
2) For Quizzes there are NO make-ups. (NB: Quizzes are unannounced.)
3) For Mid-Term Exams and Final, make-up is possible, but there is a 10% penalty if the absence is not excused. If you know you will miss an Exam date, please make arrangements in advance of your absence.
