Optional Text: Student Manual for Elementary and Intermediate Algebra by Mark Dugopolski Check out the Student Manual at the library before buying it to see if it fulfills your needs. Course Description: This course is a continuation of Math 152B. I will be presenting quadratic equations and functions and their applications, non-linear inequalities, operations and composition of functions, conic sections: parabolas, circles, ellipses and hyperbolas, linear and non-linear systems of equations, inverse functions, exponential functions, logarithms, sequences and series, and the Binomial Theorem. Prerequisite: Math 152B with a grade "C" or better or appropriate skills demonstrated through the Math Assessment process. Calculators: You will need a scientific calculator for this class. I will discuss in class which features are needed on the calculator. Graphing calculators are not allowed during quizzes or exams. Students with disabilities must identify themselves to me within the first two weeks of class. Accommodations
for Students with Disabilities:
Students requiring accommodations for a certain disability that may affect
class performance are requested to schedule with a staff member at the DRC to
discuss this during the first week of the quarter so that appropriate
arrangements can be made. *
Course materials available in alternate format.
In this class, it is your responsibility to drop the class in order to avoid an unwanted grade. You must go to Admissions & Records. Oct. 4, 2002 is the last day for refunds. Comprehensive Final Exam:
180 points Total 770 points Quizzes: There are no make-up quizzes. I give four quizzes but only three are counted so the lowest quiz score will be dropped. Midterm Exams: You must notify me before an exam if you will miss the exam (541-4660 EXT 368). Exams must be made up within 2 school days after the scheduled date, with a penalty of 10% (except with written medical excuse). You may take an exam up to 2 school days before the scheduled date without penalty. Arrangements must be made with me one week in advance. Comprehensive Final Exam: The comprehensive final exam has two parts: 1) The take-home portion is worth 30 points and is given out one week before the in-class final. It is due the day of the in-class final. 2) The in-class final is worth 150 points. Tentative Schedule Math 154-3 Date
