regularly. Required Text: Algebra and Trigonometry, by Robert Blitzer Course Description: This course is an in-depth study of functions. We will study linear, quadratic and higher order polynomials, rational functions, zeros of polynomial functions and their theorems. We will analyze functions algebraic and geometric properties. Special emphasis will be placed on application problems and the use of graphing calculators. Prerequisite: Math 154 with a grade "C" or better or appropriate skills demonstrated through the Math Assessment process. Students with disabilities must identify themselves to me within the first two weeks of class. Accommodations for Students with Disabilities: Students requiring accommodations for a certain disability that may affect class performance are requested to schedule with a staff member at the DRC to discuss this during the first week of the quarter so that appropriate arrangements can be made. *
Course materials available in alternate format.

Homework:
Even Problems: 66 points Practice Problems: 64 points 3 Quizzes @ 30 pts each: 90 points Midterm Exam 1: 120 points Midterm Exam 2: 120 points Midterm Exam 3: 100 points
Comprehensive Final Exam:
150 points Total 710 points Homework: I have given practice problems for each section. These exercises are for you to improve your understanding of the material and to prepare you for quizzes and exams. Do these problems after each of their lectures. **They are to be turned in on the day of the Quiz and Exam covering those sections. The Even-numbered problems and their due dates are on the last page of the syllabus. These assignments are to be turned in by 4:00 PM on the day they are due. The assignment is considered late if it is not turned in at this time. If you will be absent, either turn in the homework assignment early or have someone turn in the homework assignment for you. Homework that is late, but turned in within one week of the due date receives half credit. Homework turned in after one week of the due date receives no credit. Please ask me if you do not understand these policies. Quizzes: There are no make-up quizzes. I give four quizzes but only three are counted so your lowest quiz score will be dropped. Midterm Exams: You must notify me before an exam if you will miss the exam (541-4660 EXT 368). Exams must be made up within 2 school days after the scheduled date, with a penalty of 10% (except with written medical excuse). You may take an exam up to 2 school days before the scheduled date without penalty. Arrangements must be made with me one week in advance. Calculator: You will need a graphing calculator for this course. I will demonstrate the lessons using a Texas Instrument 89 (TI-89) calculator, but you may use any preference you have. You may rent a TI from the college with a deposit and fee per quarter. Please talk with me if you have any questions. Tentative Lecture Schedule Math 103A-1 Date
