Quiz  (No Calculators)

Fifteen statistics students were asked how many minutes they took to finish the last homework assignment.  The responses are shown below:

35, 40, 42, 56, 60, 65, 68, 70, 70, 73, 75, 80, 83, 89, 90

The standard deviation was computed from this data.

Suppose one additional student was asked the same question and reported that it only took 14 minutes to finish the assignment.  If the standard deviation was again calculated with these sixteen responses, will the new standard deviation be greater than, the same, or less than the original standard deviation?  Explain how you arrived at your conclusion.
