Limited-edition prints by Phyllis Shafer, Art Department Chairperson, titled “Mt. Tallac from Kiva Beach” will be available for purchase for $200. Sales proceeds will benefit the gallery’s ongoing success. Prints will be available the evening of the event or in advance by contacting the foundation.

In addition David Foster, retired, is donating a casting of his sculpture "Repose" to celebrate the grand opening of the Haldan Art Gallery.  This piece is an Artist Proof for a limited edition of 25 signed and numbered bronzes to be cast at the Shidoni Foundry in Santa Fe, New Mexico.  One hundred percent of the profits from sale of the first piece in the edition will be donated to the Haldan Art Gallery.  Fifty percent of the profits of the remaining sales of the “Repose “ edition conducted through the Haldan Art Gallery will be donated to the Foundation.  Bronze castings can be purchased in the amount of $4,650, and all proceeds will be earmarked for the Haldan Art Gallery. Haldan Gallery Mission Statement

The Gallery’s mission is to present rotating exhibitions of both historical and contemporary artists to our students and community. The goal of each art exhibition is to intrigue, teach, challenge, delight, and in some way, expand gallery visitors’ knowledge of art. A variety of instructional tools will accompany each exhibition to enhance our visitors’ learning experience. Funding for the Discovery Center has been made possible through a generous grant from Soroptimist International South Lake Tahoe. Through this generosity, gallery visitors will learn about art and artists through hands-on interactive technology. The Discovery Center will include digital interviews with artists, collectors and historians who talk about individual artworks, historical influences on art and technical explanations of how each art piece was created.

For the past ten years, Art Department faculty have worked with the administration and foundation to develop a realistic plan for an art gallery able to serve our community. Through donations from many community groups and individuals, the SLT Soroptimist Club and the administration and foundation board, the Art Gallery and Discovery Center have become a reality!
